THE CONTROL PROJECT
BRIGHTON FESTIVAL 2024
THE PROCESS
The genesis of 'The Control Project' traces back to 2019 when a vibrant ensemble of dancers, comprising our company at the time, embarked on this creative odyssey.
As the pandemic swept across the globe, a resilient new cast of dancers took up the mantle, navigating through a labyrinth of restrictions, lockdowns, and countless lateral flow tests. Despite the challenges, they persevered, pouring their passion and dedication into crafting this hour-long masterpiece. Despite the arduous journey, the culmination of their efforts faced an unexpected obstacle - the inability to share it with a live audience. Thankfully, The Brighton Dome stepped in, graciously offering their concert hall for five full days to capture the piece for screen. Without the kindness of The Brighton Dome this piece may have been lost in the archives of Project Female’s work, and we’ll be forever thankful for the amazing opportunity they gave our organisation and group of dancers.
Upon receiving the invitation to perform at The Brighton Festival in 2024, we seized the opportunity to revisit, reimagine, and reignite the spirit of 'The Control Project.' Our aim was to inspire a fresh generation of dancers and audiences with this ambitious show.
ABOUT THE CONTROL PROJECT
In a world of restrictions and confinement, freedom could be your worst enemy.
The Control Project explores the impact of social control on the individual.
We aim to raise responsible and socially conscious young people, but what happens when you peel back the layers? When you break free and take back control – when restrictions are gone and you are finally ‘free’?
