where diamonds form

about where diamonds form

Where Diamonds Form is a new social action dance theatre production by Project Female, created in response to young females calling for their experiences of secondary school to be heard, understood and taken seriously.

Developed from the lived experiences and ideas shared by young people, the production explores the gendered expectations, inequalities and everyday pressures they navigate within the education system. It examines the risks of verbal and sexual harassment, relentless scrutiny of their appearance, power dynamics between teachers and male students, and the additional challenges faced by neurodivergent young females in school.

We are delighted to be working with award-winning playwright Sophia Chetin-Leuner, who has spent time with young people from Brighton Youth Centre and Project Female, gathering the themes, experiences and emotions they shared to develop a powerful new script.

The project places young people at the heart of the creative process. Through dance, theatre and creative collaboration, Where Diamonds Form aims to amplify young females’ voices, challenge gender stereotypes and spark conversations about safety, identity, neurodiversity and the realities of growing up in today’s education system.
